MaCuDE is a collaborative effort among faculty and deans at more than 100 business schools, who recognize that their curricula must include more of a digital emphasis in order to ensure their universities remain value creators for students and alumni.
The changes in business education necessitated by the technological revolution are likely to impact all areas of business education. For this reason, MaCuDE participants are focused on addressing the needs of all the key business disciplines, each of which is addressed through its own task force.
Each task force is developing a roadmap for business education changes that address the emerging needs of industry in their assigned discipline, segmented by academic programs — undergraduate, MBA, specialty master’s and executive. The new topics, courses and skills development exercises these groups develop will be integrated with traditional disciplinary courses and curricula to create a truly future-oriented business education.
The Future of Work and Future of Learning task force is an exception, and focuses on the development of the human capabilities and skills needed in a world where cognitive work is shared between humans and machines, and where learning will have to be continuous and through various forms.
The work of the consortium is overseen and coordinated by the steering committee, which offers guidance on how to perform the work while supporting the consortium to ensure all major milestones are met. The steering committee also promotes ongoing communication among the task forces to ensure they benefit from lessons learned from, and insights provided by, other groups.
Principal investigator: Gregory Prastacos
Dr. Prastacos is dean of the School of Business at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he has led the transformation and growth of the school from a narrowly focused school of technology management to an accredited business school. Previously, he was rector of the Athens University of Economics and Business, and before that, he was on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He is an accomplished expert in operations research who has received numerous awards and grants, including the Edelman award by INFORMS. He also has significant consulting experience, both independently and with as a chairman of Deloitte’s Management Consulting Practice (Greece).
Co-principal investigator: Michael zur Muehlen
Dr. zur Muehlen is an associate professor at the School of Business at Stevens. He directs a research Center for Process Innovation. An accomplished expert in business process management, decision management and digital transformation, Dr. zur Muehlen has consulted for many Fortune 500 businesses and government agencies. He served as an advisor to the CTO and chief architect of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Business Mission Area from 2008 through 2012.
Project manager: Liz Gomez
Dr. Gomez is a program manager at the School of Business at Stevens, where she also is a lecturer in the Business Intelligence & Analytics master’s program. She previously worked as a content intelligence leader for Dun & Bradstreet, where she won a Leadership Award in 2015. She was awarded a patent for managing privileges to access data in a database in 2018.
Mr. Sheward is a partner at PwC and a member of its Assurance Innovation Leadership Team, with primary responsibility for leading citizen innovation activities for PwC’s U.S. assurance practice. He is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategy to ensure that PwC’s professionals develop and apply advanced digital acumen in delivering services to clients. Mr. Sheward also is responsible for Halo — PwC’s global assurance data analytics platform — and for the overall data strategy for the global assurance practice.
Christopher P. Gilchrist
Mr. Gilchrist is U.S. emerging technology lead director and a contributor for PwC’s Centers of Excellence, where he helps clients innovate at scale while maintaining sound risk management practices. Recently, his work has included advising on market and risk management strategies for emergent operating models, global emerging risk coordination programs, and executive sessions regarding change management strategies for large-scale initiatives and transformations.
